![]() ![]() With that said I don’t think freeform is enough of a leap forward. Especially for people who are getting bored of 10 year old apps like Evernote good notes notability and such. ![]() It certainly is a leap forward to take more advantage of the contemporary tech. I like this new way of approaching writing, note taking, studying and working. I’ve been testing Freeform on beta and here is my take on it: More information on iPadOS 16's new features can be found on Apple's website here. As a collaborative whiteboard tool, this is certainly one of the more intuitive and accessible apps around. Most importantly, Freeform is free and the boards sync across iPhone and Mac computers on the same iCloud account so you can access it on the go. I particularly liked that individual parts can be erased and moved, whether I want to move an entire text bubble or just the bubble without text, it's super easy to edit boards. My one quibble is that the palm rejection isn't fantastic, with the canvas expanding or shrinking slightly from time to time when my palm is resting on the display and I'm writing with the Apple Pencil, but it's a small issue. The app itself is smooth and relatively intuitive, and I didn't notice any bugs when using it. There are plenty of different ways to interact with the canvas, including the standard writing pen, a crayon tool, a fill tool and more. Having tried the app out for a little while, it's certainly a fun little app that Apple has put quite a bit of thought into. The app itself breaks up the canvas into little parts to sync, and while there's no track changes feature yet, we're hopeful Apple will implement it soon. Up to 100 people can collaborate on the same board, with the ability to jump to the spot that a user is working on so you can easily and quickly see what they're changing. Users are able to draw, add sticky notes and drop in videos, photos, music, web links, documents and more on a canvas. For people who might have an iPad and Apple Pencil for work or school, this is probably one of the best apps to use for jotting down notes, creating mood boards or brainstorming with classmates or coworkers. It's been available to people running the iOS and iPadOS betas for a while now, but with the release of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2 and macOS Venture 13.1, it's now ready for everybody to download. Well, that app, Freeform, is finally here. Back at WWDC 2022, Apple announced a new collaborative whiteboard app with an unlimited canvas, iCloud syncing and more.
